Privacy Policy
Last updated November 3, 2026
FindMyStorage (“we”, “us”) runs findmystorage.ca, a service that connects people looking for self-storage with storage facilities, starting in Alberta, Canada. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, who we share it with, and your rights under Alberta’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) and other applicable law.
Information we collect
- Renters: first and last name, email address, mobile phone number, the location you search, unit size and features you want, approximate move-in date, and your preferred contact method.
- Verification: a one-time code we send by text or email to confirm your contact details.
- Facility owners: account email, facility name, address, website, phone, and notification settings; payment is processed by Stripe and we do not store card numbers.
- Technical data: IP address (used for abuse prevention and rate limiting), device and browser information, and anonymous usage analytics.
How we use it
- To match your request with storage facilities near you and share it with them (see below).
- To verify your phone or email and prevent spam and fraud.
- To send you messages about your request, such as a facility accepting it.
- To operate, secure and improve the service, and to meet legal obligations.
Who we share it with
When you submit a request and confirm your contact details, we share your name, phone, email and the details of your request with up to three storage facilities in the area you searched. Facilities receive your contact details only after they accept your request through our service. They then contact you directly. We do not sell your information to advertisers or data brokers.
We also use service providers who process information on our behalf: Google (Firebase, Maps and Places), Twilio (text messages), Resend (email), Stripe (payments for facility owners) and Vercel (hosting and analytics). These providers may store data outside Canada, including in the United States, and are subject to the laws there.
Your consent and choices
- We ask for your express consent before sharing your details with facilities. You can withdraw consent at any time by emailing us; withdrawing does not undo contact a facility has already made, but we will stop sharing and ask facilities to stop contacting you.
- Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can reply STOP to texts.
- You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information.
Retention
We keep renter requests while they are active in our marketplace and for a limited period afterwards for dispute handling and legal compliance, then delete or anonymize them. Verification codes expire within ten minutes.
Security
Contact details are stored separately from the public part of a request, are only readable by facilities that accepted your request and by our administrators, and are protected with access controls. No system is perfectly secure; if there is a breach that creates a real risk of significant harm, we will notify affected people and the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta as required.
Cookies and analytics
We use privacy-friendly analytics and performance measurement (Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights). Our maps use OpenStreetMap tiles and Google Places for address suggestions.
